How will controversy affect the EU over the longer term? Will the organization persist, transform or fail? Defend your answer.
Explanation / Answer
Refugee crisis that had followed by international happenings had now long been a concern for EU. Tens of thousands of people have migrated to the EU countries fleeing their countries of their origin due to poverty and war. To find the means of peace and help themselves to rebuild their lives, refugees have illegally tried to cross EU borders, which in many cases have been oddly handled by the EU countries. The most recent among the immigration from Syrians who have fled the pangs of war and destruction.
The EU countries disagreed on how to deal with immigration crisis, which even lead to the return of boarder checks. Differences between member states as how to handle refugees, and bear and sharing responsibility, have generated strains among the EU nations. Consequently, the EU was divided into many groups. The row with Austria got so bad that it led to the Greece’s withdrawal of its ambassador to Vienna.
The crisis will weaken the EU in the long run if the refugee crisis are not met with mutual agreement and understanding. But at the end EU will come stronger enough as we have seen in case of financial crisis.
