Explanation / Answer

(17)..Ans...Mainly seismic waves help scientists understand the earth's interior by calculating speeds and direction of the waves,in geophysics the refraction or reflection of seismic waves is used for research into the structure of the earth's interior.Seismic waves have unique properties all there own which can help describe the interior of the earth.

When reaching seismic observatories their different travel time help scientists to locate the source of the earthquake hypocenter.

(18)..Ans...S-wave shadow zone exists from 105 to 180 degrees, they cannot travel through liquids at all so rather than being refracted by the liquid outer core and travelling through it.S-wave shadow zone is larger because of the liquid outer core, the S wave cannot travel through the liquid outer core but the P waves only get refracted.

This is why the S-wave shadow zone is larger than the P wave shadow zone.

(22)..Ans...If you are in a car when an earthquake happens then there are some important things to keep in mind, first if you are in driving pull over to the side of the road, stop and set the parking brake immidiately, please stay inside the vehicle until the shaking is over.

(21)..Ans...Tall buildings respond during earthquake compared to small building because it mainly depends on the magnitude of the earthquake,
