Question

Romance Languages are the Languages of Love/Lovers, NOT Attachment COLLAPSE Prof Welk: Bet the title grabbed your attention… Textbook Chapter 4 deals with Europe, so it's thus time for threads about Europe... most European languages belong to Indo European language family. most languages in Northern Europe belong to the Germanic language branch. most in Eastern Europe belong to the Slavic branch. most in Southern Europe belong to the Romance branch. OK, and now for the provocative statement: The Romance languages are the languages of "love/lovers", NOT. Now remember, this is coming from a geographer: The Romance languages, to be geographically correct, simply refer to the languages that evolved out of ancient Rome, and thus the name Romance. It generally works like this: There were a people of ancient Rome called the Latins, the area they occupied was called Latium (now called Lazio), and their language was called Latin. With the exception of the Catholic church and certain sciences, Latin is an extinct language, but its relatives survive as the Romance languages. The most spoken of the Romance languages are Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Romanian. Gosh, guess what is the most Romantic of the Romance languages? That's right! Romanian is. Who would have thought? Now for the big question: How is it that the word Romance became associated with love/lovers/etc.? There is a reason, but it's not because the Romans were more (or less) lovers than anybody else. The reason is because of something tied to history of literature. See if you can find it and provide an informed post (i.e., No copy/pastes. Use your own words.) back on your findings.

Explanation / Answer

The word romance orginated from the Latin word  "Romanicus," meaning "of the Roman style." and the word romance in english was developed from a vernacular dialect within the French language meaning "verse narrative"referring to the style of speech, writing, and artistic talents within elite classes

In the later middle age under the influence of christianity transformed an old literature based on hedonism into a new European literature based on the idealization of love. Thus the knights went from lusting after their friends’ wives to swooning in love over a woman’s glove. The literature idealized love to such an extent, and set so many obstacles in front of it that this love became almost impossible to attain. Then so romance became a poetic quest for an unattainable ideal of wholeness.

Romance ia actually not based on true love.romance is a game in which u have to attain a goal with other competitors and these would explain the essence of jealousy, the fear of losing want u desperately want and u also hate someone coming in between you and the goal in other words Romance is an adventure
