Question

Ross Douthat, a political columnist, offers the following observation about the Medicare program:

Certainly telling seniors to buy all their own health care is a complete political (and ethical) non-starter. But telling seniors to pay for more of their own health care, well, it%u2019s hard to see how else we can hope to reduce Medicare%u2019s fiscal burden.

a-      What does Douthat mean by Medicare%u2019s %u201Cfiscal burden%u201D?

b-      How could the government change the Medicare program so that seniors would pay for more of their own health care? How would this change restrain growth in the spending on Medicare? How would this change affect very low-income seniors?

Explanation / Answer

a) amount paid by the government is increasing in medical sector because they have to pay for senior's healthcare also

b) Governement can cut a certain amount from their salaries. So they will automatically pay for their medicare programe and due to this ,this money can now be spend on those people which actually can afford it.Very low income seiors will now get some basic facilities which they were not getting berofe
