ICE AGE The Pleistocene Epoch [2.58 MILLION-1,700 YEARS AGO] The Earth hes shifted between warm and cold climates throughout goological history. The most recent cold phases (ice ages) occurred during the Pleistocene Epoch. t Pleistocene ica ages, masslve glaciers spread southward, During the causing sea levels to drop. This led to the development of land connections that allowed species to move into new areas As the climate warmed again, melting glaciers flooded many areas and ses levels rose, isolating formerly connected land regions. These frequently changing environmental conditions evolutionary change fostered remarkableExplanation / Answer
The Pleistocene Epoch witnessed a huge glacial period. During this time around 30% of the Earth's surface was covered in permafrost and glaciers. The permafrost over the northern region of North America descended much to the South and same happened over Eurasia. The glaciers which are dying as of now like in Mt Kilimanjaro, grew to great extent. Glaciers were also found in the Ethiopian mountains.
This caused a major impact on the biodiversity of that time. Major migration occurred all across the globe where species moved South. Mammals like the mammoth started facing extinction. New species of birds came that flew North.
