You will be expected to go and have an experience “outside” the classroom that you can relate to what we are studying in Physical Geography.

-Take a personal exploration where you can apply and demonstrate at least three concepts that you have learned in this course.

Briefly summarize the outing, explain how it pertains to the class (3-5 specific physical geography concepts), and reveal your reaction to how your understanding of physical geography informed your experience and/or how the field outing influenced your understanding of physical geography.

The result should be a 2-3 page total document

Explanation / Answer

Physical Geography is the study of the physical surface of the earth like hydrosphere, lithosphere, biosphere and atmosphere.

Physical Geography can be divided in to several sub fields like Geomorphology,hydrology,Glaciology,climatology, and Meteorology etc.

With the experience in classroom we will study about the topics like hydrology,Geomorphology,glaciology, climatology, Pedology,Meteorology, Oceanography etc

3 topics learned at classroom :

Geomorphology, hydrology, Glaciology

Geomorphology : Geomorphology is the study of the physical features on the surface of the earth like mountains and hills, rivers, ridges, landforms etc.and how they have formed and the age of the landforms are studied in the classroom.We can study about the slope, gradient and the types of the geology by which the hills are formed but we cannot experience in class.

At field about Geomorphology: By going to the field we can experience the hill structure according to the contouring and the physical shape of the hill. By knowing the shape and slope of the hill the rivers or streams that are coming from the hill tops can be measured. At field I observed that according to the slope the stream velocity changes as if the slope is steep then the water will move with more velocity as it falls directly on to the downhill as a waterfall.And about erosion at the hills can also be seen at the field.By looking into the stream we can observe that small, medium and large boulder like rock materials are rolling down in to the downstream.After reaching some distance the velocity of the stream decreases and the erosion takes place much and meanders are formed and after some days meanders break and ox -bow lakes are formed. And later the stream mixed with the river and at last flows into the Sea.By measuring all this contents we can predict the future land forms and the problems we are facing can also be solved. This is the part of the Geomorphology I observed in the Geomorphology field.

2)Hydrology : Hydrology in class : Hydrology is the science that deals with the study of water on the land surface of the earth.Hydrology mainly deals with the storage of water for human purposes and the recharge and discharge and the cycle it went on the surface before it reaches Sea.

At field: In the field i observe hydrological study.Hydrological cycle means the water gaining and loosing in simple words.By knowing the precipitation amount we can calculate the amount of recharge and by knowing the human needs at a particular place can tell us the storage of water and the amount of water that discharged.This can be measured per year.By measuring the recharge and the storage and the discharge of water we can know the water need and the water pupose.Many applications are running to store water and use later, like constructing dams and the reservoirs etc.I collected data like precipitation storage and the vegetation use of water and the discharge and calculated water balance.By water balance budget one can know the amount of water that stored every year.

Glaciology : Glaciology in class: Glaciology is the study of the Glaciers on the earth.Glaciers , the flow of the glaciers and the formation of the glaciers and the mountains are studied in the class.

At the field: At the field I studied about the type of Glacier and the type of rock on which the Glacier is flowing.By calculating the temperature and taking data of the climate and comparing the climate values to the amount of glacier flowing every year,we can able to know the amount of glacier that flowing as a stream.So the precautions can be taken to reduce the climatic problems.As if glaciers are not there their will be no life on the earth.
