Question

Environmental, ecological and climate change differs in various parts of the world. Although our lives are exceedingly brief in the context of geologic time, I would like you to consider whether you or your extended family (parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents) have experienced events or changes that might be related to global change. Summarize your story in a few paragraphs. If, on the other hand, you feel that there has been no evidence of global change in the part of the world where you have lived, you can explain this as well.

(Please don't ues hand writting, it is hard to read.)

Explanation / Answer

Climate change is the difference observed in cumulative weather patterns of a specific region measured over a considerable period of time. I am a city dweller and monitoring changing climatic patterns is difficult in cities as it has its own micro climate. But when I visit my Grandparents in Nebraska, I hear a lot about changing Climate. Nebraska is a mid-western state located in the Great Plains region of US. The climate is mostly semi-arid and temperatures barely cross 30 degree C in summers. But lately I have been experiencing hotter summers. 2016 was the Hottest year for Nebraska in the entire history of Temperature measurements.

This is not my individual observation alone. My uncles grow Corn and summer is the time of sowing. They often say that summers are becoming hotter and hotter every year. The growing season has also considerably increased lately. This has also raised the demand of water for irrigation. Over three decades of farming experience backs this finding of theirs. Moreover, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) study says that the average annual temperatures for Nebraska are expected to increase by 8 or 9 degrees Fahrenheit by the final quarter of the century.

In addition to this, winters are becoming warmer too. This has reduced horticultural produce according to my aunts who grow vegetables in the permaculture slot. All these observations point to the changing climatic scenario in Nebraska.
