Explanation / Answer
1) Stream erodes on the outer bank of the river. In a meandering river the outer curve suffers erosion while deposition prevails in the inner curve as the speed of water is faster in the outer curve. As a result small gorges are formed on the outer bank.
2) Steep hills- Stream trend to be straight, as the velocity is high the river cuts across land areas with no depositon so path remains straight.
Flat plains- river meanders, as the velocity reduces due to high content of sediments and topography, sinosity develops leading to more deposition and less erosion.
3) Deeper parts vary from place to place. If a river meandes on an extremely flat plain the depth at the outer curve is higher than the middle, but when it meanders in higher altitude region with dipping landforms, the depth at the middle is high compared to the outer banks. In general outer curve depth is more than middle. While in the inner curve there is only deposition with shallow depths.
4) Paving decreases runoff thus the path of river remain fixed and confined with lesser chance to change its course.
5) When stream channels widens there is lesser chance of flash floods, The water gets evenly distributed in the river section. The floods that occurs from long widened rivers last for many days and they are not flash floods.
