Select different species, one at a time, to show their distribution on the map. Some species are widely distributed across the continent; others have a limited distribution. Select two species that have a relatively limited distribution, and read the information about the species by clicking on the document icon to the right of the species name. Not all of the species have this information, so you will need to explore until you find two that are documented. Consider what you know about the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere of the American continent compared with the distributions of the species you have selected. Question 9 for Homework 9: List the two species you selected, describe their spatial distribution, and suggest environmental factors that might be limiting their distribution.

Explanation / Answer

spatial distribution of the species is totally dpend on their ambiance and the environmental factors as well as geographical factors also. if these factors are suitable for the species in a various land or in a large area then they will be widely distributed otherwise they they having limited distribution. here are two species who having a limited distribution due to various reasons.

1. arctic fox ( vulpes lagopus)--- arctic fox occure at the arctic tundra. most of thy found at the arctic islands and icelands. arctic fox needed a cold environment thats why they occured at those places where temperature is too low . and this is the main reason behind the limited distribution of them. because they need -70 c temperature and this type of temperature lies only at the poles or at that region which are near to the poles.

2. california sea lion ( Zalophus californianus)- theses seals found only at the cost of the west North America . any oher place is not suitable for them . they eat shellfish, squid and eat. this coast provide them food and perfect temperature for the breeding . at other places they are prey for the sharks and other animals easily. but here they are safe comaparatively other places.
