Question
Earth's climate is changing.
Climate Change refers to any significant change in the measures of climate lasting for an extended period of time. In other words, climate change includes major changes in temperature, precipitation, or wind patterns, among other effects, that occur over several decades or longer.- US Environmental Protection Agency
Our lives are connected to the climate. Human societies have adapted to the relatively stable climate we have enjoyed since the last ice age which ended several thousand years ago. A warming climate will bring changes that can affect our water supplies, agriculture, power and transportation systems, the natural environment, and even our own health and safety. - US Environmental Protection Agency
Scientific evidence for warming of the climate system is unequivocal. - Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
Natural causes alone cannot explain all of these changes. Human activities are contributing to climate change, primarily by releasing billions of tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other heat-trapping gases, known as greenhouse gases, into the atmosphere every year. - US Environmental Protection Agency
For this Climate Change Discussion Post answer the following questions:
1- Provide at least three specific & detailed forms of scientific evidence in support of climate change.
2-Is climate change an important topic to you? Why or why not?
3- Ninety-seven percent of climate scientists agree that climate-warming trends over the past century are very likely due to human activities. - NASA. Specifically, why do you think this topic is so controversial in the general public?
4- What is Carbon Sequestration? Do you think this idea is a viable solution to climate change?
Explanation / Answer
1. Temperature raise, Sealevel Raise, Ocean acidification.
There are more evidences that explain the change in climate.
Temperature raise. In the good olden days the temperature is normal and increased a little becuase of the emission of green house gases from volcanoes. But now the scenario has changed. The humans are now releasing more green house gases which are not absorbed completely. This is trapping the whole heat and radiation in the atmosphere and causing the earth to become hot. Observations says that there is an increase of one centigrade of temperature.
Sea level rais is another evidence that climate is changing. The increased heat is increasing the melting of ice globally. The melted water is going into the ocean and the level is raising. Lots and lots of water around us but no proper rains. Now the oceans are hot by 0.302 degree fahrenheit from the past. And the water level is raising continuously and drowning everything.
Ocean acidification is another evidence. The carbondioxide is mixing with the ocean water in high quantities and this is resukting in the increase of the acidic nature of water. With this several corals and organisms are dying. The acidity has now increased to thirty percent. About two billion tons of carbondioxide is absorbed by the oceans.
2. Climate chage is very important. When everything is cool and warm we dont have any issues in the lifestyle. But when the climatic conditions are not good, they cause many troubles. Unwanted rains, droughts, excess heat, floods and others. The whole life cycle is chaniging because of the climate change. No proper air to breath and no proper food.
3. Yes, humans are responsible for the climate change. People need car to go and AC to live and fossil fuels to burn. They throw plastic, chemicals and waste the resources. They wont accept the fact that they are responsible for this. They say we have many more trees left and no issues will come from that.
4. This carbon sequestration is process that involves the capturing of carbon dioxide and storing it. So with this we can reduce the heat and gases. Prevention is better than cure. Why to release and why to capture them. This work on win and lose chances.
