How are labor unions and collective bargaining related?
How does the decline in unions affect middle class wages and does this have a positive or negative effect on the international or domestic economy?
Which of these factors do you believe made the greatest effect on the decline of unions, global trade, technological change, the shift away from domestic manufacturing or a tougher stance against unions from government and corporate leaders?
Explanation / Answer
Labor unions and collective bargaining are directly related when power of Labor union rises in a economy then collective bargain of union members increases. Collective bargain lead to rise of base level salary, non monetary benefits, non union employee wages etc.
Decline in Union lead to staganation of middle class wages and which to a greater extent has affective non union workers as well because of spill over effect. Decline in Union has lead to positive effects on both domestic and international economy as collective bargaining of union members has decreased and bargaining power of enterprises has increased.
Declines of union attributed to most of the factors listed in quesiton, however, the major factor is tougher stance against unions from Government and corporate leaders. When Government became tough Corporate leaders also get room to toughen their stance against Union and finally bargaining power of Union has declined.
