(c) Same as (b) but for the entire atmosphere.Explanation / Answer
a)
The ozone layer in Earth's stratosphere absorbs most of the Sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation. This layer has high concentrations of ozone (O3). This layer is generally found in the lower portion of the stratosphere, from around 20 to 30 km above Earth, even though its width fluctuates seasonally and geographically.
The sun radiates energy in a broad range of wavelengths, most of which are invisible to human eyes. Shorter wavelength radiation are more energetic and the greater the potential to harm human beings. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation that arrives at the Earth’s surface is in wavelengths between 290 and 400 nm. The harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation can be classified as acute or chronic. The acute effects of UV rays effects contain mostly sunburn and tanning. The chronic effects of UV rays are more serious and even life threatening, it include premature aging of the skin, suppression of the immune system, damage to the eyes, and skin cancer.
b)
Visible window at ground level:
Frequency range: 4x1014 - 7.5x1014 Hz
Wavelength Range: 750nm - 400 nm
c)
Infrared window at ground level:
Frequency range: 1x1013 - 4x1014 Hz
Wavelength Range: 25um - 750nm
