Question

Apple's early success was thanks to the Apple II, which was released in 1977. Apple failed to deliver a successful follow up for seven years, says Goldman. It came out with the Apple III, which had "engineering flaws," and had to be recalled. The next computer was the Apple Lisa, which cost $9,995, making it way too expensive for the broader consumer market.

Apple didn't deliver a strong follow-up until it released the Macintosh in 1984. By then it was too late.

While Apple struggled to deliver a follow up computer, IBM desperate to break into the personal computer market, outsourced production of an operating system to Microsoft. Consumers and enterprises were familiar with the IBM brand and bought IBM computers, shunning Apple's balky offerings.

IBM, however, didn't lock in exclusivity. Microsoft started selling its OS to any PC maker, that would buy it. Thus, Microsoft's share of the computing market took off. As Microsoft grabbed market share, developers started working on applications for its OS instead of Apple's Macintosh system.

Microsoft's operating system, which was on more computers that cost less money and had better applications became the dominant computing platform for the next twenty years.

juicy has been successful in selling women's clothing using an unusual strategy. the key to the firm's strategy to limit the distribution of its products to only a few high-end department stores, even if that means sacrificing sales- a brand management technique once used for luxury brand. Although juicy was originally known mainly for the fashion tracksuits it sold, with its edgy contemporary sportswear and accessories, juicy has become a lifestyle brand of women, men and kids.

Compared with the situation Apple Computer faced during mid-1980s, is juicy more or led likely to be able to maintain its product differentiation over a long period of time?

Explanation / Answer

I feel Business is an art that is basically depending on consumer based. A single strategy or a single way of running Business may not suit all the times.

There are many reasons for facing problems by Apple in 1980's like developing software that was already late, even after developing selling that with high cost, By the time Microsoft captured entire market. Entering into market before than competiteor is very important, even if entry gets delayed some other strategies depending on consumers could have been followed by the Company in order to survive.

Here in the situtation I really feel Juicy may not survive in the longer run. Even if it survives that will be limited to only a particular group, community like rich or could only capture market to some extent but not all.

Society means a combination of Poor and rich and the thing is that the society is dominated by Poor or middle income based group. Unusual strategy followed by Juicy like  limiting the distribution of its products to only a few high-end department stores leads the Business to survive or struggle limits only to high-ended group, even it means sacrificing sales even though there ia a available ready market. Even if we go for SWOT analysis, depending on higher income based group may be a Strength, but in the case we are loosing ana Oppotunity OF Middle income based or less than that.

So I feel concentrating on other markets may strengthen its future.
