Explanation / Answer

TESCO, the giant in UK’s food retailing sector is stumbling at the moment with its profits falling, stagnant sales and problems creeping in the ownership. Recession has increased the craze for other chain stores like Germany's Aldi and Lidl that is giving tough competition to TESCO. So the first task for this firm is to consolidate itself before entering any other host country.

The European retail market is currently highly competitive. Losing market share in the home market is a setback. Online sales and convenience are a challenge and as well as opportunity. The main challenge is to show the investors that it can really expand since its growth is stagnant since last five years.

Over the years, there has been a gradual erosion of the trust that was present with the customers. Earning that trust back especially from new avenues in European market where the firm is thinking to launch itself is fundamentally important to TESCO.

The same situation is faced by Carrefour since last few years in its domestic country, France. The challenge between these two firms is to become the second largest retail chain behind Wal-Mart so they both are expanding with inconsiderable analysis which is needed to be looked profoundly.
