The registered nurse first analyze the data that is collected and then go for diagnosis. She then with healthcare consumer or with family validates the diagnoses and further identifies potential risks to the patient's health and safety. In order to identify the diagnoses, she uses clinical decision support tools and standardized classification system.

LPN however, in order to diagnose, compares and contrasts clinical findings with normal and abnormal variations. During an interview and examination, they utilize the data provided and identify the diagnoses.

An example : Health teaching and health promotion :

An RN explains how to lead a healthy life style, needs for development, self care and activities of daily living. She demonstrates the health teaching which is appropriate to the consumer's situation and needs. She asks for the feedback and evaluation after the strategies being followed. Provides information to the consumer regarding disease prevention and health promotion by taking the help of information technologies. She also mentions the adverse effects of the therapies to be conducted.
