Question
As you monitor J.P. throughout the day, what other a/s of embolization will you watch for? Three important diagnostic criteria for infectious endocarditis are anemia, fever, and cardiac murmurs. Explain the cause for each sign. On the day after admission, you review J.F.s laboratory test results: Na 138 mmol/L, K 3.9 mmol/L, Cl 103 mmol/L, BUN 85 mg/dL, creatinine 3.9 mg/dL., glucose 185 mg/dL, WBCs 6.7 thou/cmm, Hct 27%, Hqb 9.0 g/dL, Identity the values that are not within normal ranges, and explain the reason for each abnormality. Which laboratory value(s) reflect(s) catabolism of muscle, and what does muscle catabolism accomplish? If the TPN is scheduled on a 24-hour basis, when would blood glucose be drawn, and why? Why would blood glucose monitoring be important?Explanation / Answer
3) As the J. F is monitored throughout the day other signs like chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness, wheezing can take place because of venous clots and arterial clots.
4) Anemia is caused because of infection process
Fever is caused because of immune response from the body and murmurs is caused because if vegetation within the heart.
5) BUN85 mg/dl is not normal, it should be within 8-20 mg/dl and abnormality causes renal failure.
Second abnormality is creatinine 3.9mg/dl and it should be in the range of 0.6-1.2 mg/dl. And this also causes renal failure.
Third abnormality is Glucose 185 mg/dl that should be in the range of 70-100 mg/dl and this causes stress to the body.
Fourth abnormality is Hct27% and that should be in the range of 36%-51% and this causes anemia.
Fifth abnormality is Hgb 9.0 g/dl and that should be in the range of 12-17 g/dl and this also causes anemia.
6) Creatine phosphokinase reflects the catabolism of muscle and this is released when there is extreme stress on the muscle. This enzyme is found in heart, skeletal muscle and brain.
