Explanation / Answer
a) The main motives behind this rule are workers safety and product quality. United States as a promoter of free trade believes in international trade, but it also believes in fair trade, Workers safety in supplier country is a major concern for our country. We need to ensure safety is no.1 priority of any workforce both local and our suppliers. Further there are rudimentary methods adopted by supplier nations which cause apples to damage enroute, Packaging and other specifications accroding to our safety regulations are not followed in past, This is the main reason behind our rule to stop importing foreign apples which do not follow proper worker safety and product quality rules
B) As a grower nation we take pride in our produce and our products meet most strict standards ensured by our regulatory agency, Further we export best of our apples to United States. US is making rules that are againist the spirit of free trade and aggrements that are signed under WTO conventions. We seek WTO action to grant market access to US apple market. Further we seek heavy penalities to US for any such future action.
