Question

Discussion forum There is so much conflicting information! There is so much info out there that is not necessarily correct in terms of different diet methods, fat intake, carb intake etc. Think of a diet myth or food question that you are curious about (Atkins, Paleo, Raw, Grapefruit diet, South Beach, etc. It doesn't have to be weight loss - it can be muscle building, brain boosting, anything you are interested in) research it online, and then "fact check" the issue. Evaluating Nutrition ideas about how to fact check the diet myth or question you are curious about. brings up regarding how to evaluate scientific claims, how do these questions relate to your myth? Dig up the facts and write a post with both the question and the answer you found and believe to be true (and the source - name of site and url is fine). Provide both evidence for any positive and negative aspects of the diet. Does it provide enough of our essential nutrient needs, can you feel full on it, are there any deficiencies or risks? The idea is to show you how much conflicting information there is out there and to encourage you to decipher good information from health/medical quackery. You will be graded on the accuracy of your information and your analysis for this one. **some ideas (but certainly there are no limitations) would be to research some diet fads or school of thought (raw diet eating, vegan, caveman diet, etc.) or diet pills or cleanse pills out there, exercise "pills", fat burning "aids", etc, or look up any of those "I heard that ________ did this" type questions - example: is coconut water as good as Gatorade for endurance athletes? Anything goes, but if you have seen that another students had already posted on a myth, pick another topic... we want a wide variety.
