Joan has been the nurse manager of her unit for the past 10 years and is highly regarded by the hospital’s administration. For the past several months, she has been feeling more and more frustrated and less satisfied with her job because of staffing cuts and other institutional decisions related to managed care and cost savings. Joan feels she tends less to the patient’s needs and more to the organization’s needs. She considers leaving, but she has seniority, good benefits, and two children to support.

As a nurse manager, she should communicate to the director of nursing or assistant director as per the line of hierarchy, like whats the nurses are suffering and what they actually want. How it will affect the quality of the care. The health of the health care provider plays a crucial role in providing quality care to the patient. So, Joan should communicate the things clearly to the higher official.

Beliefs, ideals guide in decision making:

If I was in Joans place, I will communicate clearly what I want. Having the self esteem, self respect, job satisfaction which plays a crucial role in any aspect. And also I have the confident on what I am doing. If the management is not ready to change the behaviour, I will be ready to quit the job because when there is no job satisfactio, working in that pressurised environment doesnt help. The main aspect of nursing is of client care should be given at most important. To take care of children, I can work in any other environment, where there is atmost patient care is of primary importance, I have the self confidence, I can do.

Respect from self and others

These three plays a crucial role in my life. Because the person should have faith in oneself. That means confidence they should have on their own. Next one is of independence or freedom because when one is of independent the chance of growth will be larger. Giving respect to others and also self respect both plays crucial role in ones self esteem. If they have respect, they reach the higher level very easily. Because of this I am living very happily. I have the confidence on what can I do, and able to take decisions freely, so Iam in a good respectable .position
