“We’re sorry all our operators are busy. Your call is important to

Column B:

What column do the following statements belong?

The number of part time jobs of all types, is up.

Technology is never neutral.

Technology has always destroyed jobs.

We should define a person’s worth outside of wage labour.

My Answer:
The only thing I can see is that the items in column A take jobs away from people. The lesson was about supply and demand and the market equilibrium. However I do not see how that comes into play. Thanks for your help.

Explanation / Answer

Okay, I'm just going to give this a go in layman's terms, and you can put it into economical terms for your class or whatever. Column A: Many "middle-man" jobs today are able to be replaced by technology, which actually decreases the number of people necessary for an employer to hire (and contributes negatively to the unemployment rate). This one is definitely tougher, but here's what I get: Column B: The cost of living is driving people to work overtime (or more than they would like, at any rate), which causes them to have less time for personal matters. Similarly, much of a person's income goes toward being able to take time off or retire so that he can eventually get some of that personal time back someday. Statements: The number of part time jobs of all types, is up. -Column B, because it is talking about how little time people have to spend at home, etc., because of how much they have to work to keep up with the cost of living. Technology is never neutral. -Column A, because it talks about how technology is destroying blue collar jobs, etc. Technology has always destroyed jobs. -Column A, (same as last answer) We should define a person’s worth outside of wage labour. -Column B, this is sort of a latent meaning in that last column, which implies that good people who are "worth" more as people (maybe?--this is kind of hard to explain) sometimes feel down because they are paid so low, which makes them feel as though they are worth less
