Explanation / Answer

1- State your score and based on your results what can you conclude about your health? How does this assessment assist you in your behaviour change process?

My total score for “Are you an internet addict?” is 46 which represents using the internet mildly or for an average period of time. Surfing the internet is longer than required, however, there is no any urge or compulsion is present and have a complete control of the impulses. In the assessment of compulsive behaviour for gambling with 20 questions, my total response consists zero ‘yes’ answers to the questions stated. Here, the criteria are, people who score at least 7 ‘yes’ answers to the twenty questions will be termed as compulsive gamblers. Similarly, my total replies for “Are you a compulsive buyer?” scenario consists of two ‘yes’ answers. This represents that there is some compulsive behaviour and there is also a strong sense of awareness to check what is happening around me. With the above assessments, I believe that I am in an optimally health individual with potential for growth.

Anyone who requires a positive behaviour change and feels to get changed must get aware of his own behaviour – his emotions under control, his urges, desires, his through processes, etc. at first. Through these assessments, I have learned the areas of weakness and correcting these weaknesses will lead to all-round development of my behaviour. Therefore, this assessments assists me in analysing my behaviour patterns and letting me know my weak areas for improvement.

2- What can you conclude about your healthy lifestyle based on what you read in the textbook and module information. Give clear examples and page numbers to get full credit.

Based on the module information it is concluded that I have an urge to use the web to a mild extent. I also note myself that I have a healthy lifestyle since I have a strong control of my actions and behaviour to use the internet effectively and when required. Furthermore, I do not compromise my physical health (such as postponing my diet over internet usage, sleeplessness for using the internet, etc.), my social health (have positive relationships with everyone I know), and mental health (absence of urge behaviour). However, sometimes I find some urge to use the web to a great extent. I feel that this can be resolved by recognising my behaviour pattern and having a positive approach to life.

Based on my literature review, I also note that the internet addiction is as serious as a drug addiction and affects many areas of life. One who suffers from internet addiction has major issues related to a social relationship especially, relationship with friends, families, parent-child relationship, and financial problems related to gambling, work-related problems, etc.
