Pneumonia remains an important cause of mortality and morbidity rate in HIV infected patients.Cigarette smoking increases the risk of lung colonisation,as well as acute pneumonia due to Pneumocystis jiroveci ,has been seen mostly in hiv infected patients to produce significant depression of phagocytise function of alveolar macrophages. Lower respiratory tract is affected more with a pulmonary lung infection. Due to HIV immune system is affected particularly CD4 count cells with low counts are at a greater risk.
