Question

In each of the following cases, explain whether you thinkthe

situation is efficient or not. If it is not efficient, whynot?

What actions would make the situation efficient?

a. Electricity is included in the rent at yourdorm. Some residents

in your dorm leave lights, computers, and appliances

on when they are not in their rooms.

b. Although they cost the same amount toprepare, the cafeteria

in your dorm consistently provides too many dishes that

diners don’t like, such as tofu casserole, and too fewdishes

that diners do like, such as roast turkey with dressing.

c. The enrollment for a particular courseexceeds the spaces

available. Some students who need to take this course to

complete their major are unable to get a space while others

who are taking it as an elective do get a space.

Explanation / Answer

A - no, because since you only pay a tiny fraction of electricitycosts that you incur. You can make each person responsible fortheir own costs. B - no, but you could make it so that students are not obligated toeat on campus ( personal issue as a college student). C - no, simply supply teachers to fit the demand. I personallydon't understand why colleges don't do this, but registration is anentire 3 months before the class starts, plenty of time to findmore teachers.
