Question
A 350 kg uniform square sign, 2.00 m on a side, is hung from a 3.00 m rod of negligible mass. A cable is attached to the end of the rod and to a point on the wall 4.00 m above the point where the rod is fixed to the wall (see the figure).
What is the tension in the cable?
What is the horizontal component of the force exerted by the wall on the rod?
What is the vertical component of the force exerted by the wall on the rod?

What is the horizontal component of the force exerted by the wall on the rod? What is the vertical component of the force exerted by the wall on the rod?Explanation / Answer
here this is a 3/4/5 triangle
so
sin theta = 4/5
cos theta = 3/5
using sum of the Forces acting in Y direction = 0
we get T sin theta = mg
T = 350 * 9.8* 5/4
T = 428.75 N
--------------------------
Horizontal force Fh = T cos theta
Fh = 428.75 * 5/3
Fh =714.5 N
--------------
No Vertical force as the rod id hinged horizontally
