Question
A charge of 5.0 /mu C is placed at the 0-cmmark of a meterstick and a charge of-4.0 /mu C is placed at the 5 0-cmmark (a) The electric field at the 30-cm mark is pointing (1) toward the 0-cm mark, (b) perpendicular to the meterstick, or (3) toward the 5 0-cm mark Explain, (b) What is the magnitude of the electric field at the 30-cm mark?(c) At what point on the meterstickis the electric field zero? If a conductor is an electrostatic equilibrium near an electric charge, explain what must be true.Explanation / Answer
a) so the 5cm will point to the right
and -4 will also point to the right so they will add so toward the 50 cm
b) E = kq/r^2 + k q/r^2 = 9.0E9*5.0E-6/.3^2 + 9.0E9*4.0E-6/.2^2= 1.4E6 N/C
2) there will have to be induced charge on the surface since inside the conductor there needs to be zero field
