Question

A steel playground slide is 4.58m long and is raised ip 2.35 m on one end. What is the final speed if a child od mass of 22.8 kg as she slides down from the top starting at rest? Asssume that there is minimal friction between the chold and the slide. A steel playground slide is 4.58m long and is raised ip 2.35 m on one end. Explanation / Answer

Since friction is neglected so,

From Conservation of Energy principle

Total Energy = Constant

So, the potential energy at highest point will change into Kinetic energy at lowest point

mgh =1/2 (mv2)

V = (2gh)0.5

=(2x9.81x2.35)0.5

= 6.79 m/s

So, velocity of child at lowest point = 6.79 m/s, along the slope of slide.
