Question
- There are more moles of material in 80 grams of helium or 400 grams of argon?
- An air bubble underwater has the same pressure as that of the water. As the air bubble rises toward the surface (and its temperature remains constant), describe what happens to the volume of the air bubble (attempt a quantitative solution to this process)
- A waitress fills your water glass with ice water (containing many ice cubes). Describe what happens to the level of the water as the ice melts.
- Use Bernoulli effect to explain the lift force on an airplain wing.
- You may have noticed that when you get out of a swimming pool and stand dripping wet in a light breeze, you feel much colder than you feel after you dry off. Why is this?
Explanation / Answer
1)80gm He=80/4 mole He = 20 mole He
200gm of Ar=200/40 mole Ar = 5 mole He
So True
2)as number of moles and temperature are constant
Volume is inversly proportinal to Pressure
As bubble moves up wards pressure on bubble decreases so Volume increases
3)Water have maximum density at 4oC .So As ice melts initally volume decreases and after water reaches 4oC volume starts increasing
4)Aeroplane wings are arranged in such a way that the speed of air below the wings is less than speed of air above the wings(wings are oriented such a way ,they oppose the motion of air below it).So according to Bernoulli effect pressure below the wing is higher than above it.So plane is lifted up if the speed difference is sufficient enough.
5)when u stand in light breeze when u are wet,the water on u evoporates by absorbing ur internal energy. So u feel more cold.
