Question
Potential energy is stored in a body if it is lifted from ground to a certain height. Now if this body is dropped from there then the P.E would change to K.E. and some work will be done on the body, if it is a nail then it would get inside a wooden plank.
So, we conclude that when the body was lifted up it gained P.E. But if we don't move the body and dig a hole around it and keep the nail at the bottom of the hole so will the body move the nail into the plank? Why will it move it since the body was not moved so how did it gained the P.E.?
Explanation / Answer
yes, it does since the height will alter the amount of stored energy
