Two Examples of care intervention to manage pain other than medication:
a. Acupuncture:
Acupuncture is a method of stimulating certain points on the body by the insertion of special needles to modify the perception of pain. Acupuncture is the primary treatment of Chinese medication. It is used in the treatment of low back pain, myofascial pain, headache, shoulder pain, and osteoarthritis.
b. Therapeutic Touch:
Therapeutic touch is the self-healing process to treat pain. In this, the trained professionals who attempt to direct their own balanced energies in an intentional and motivated manner toward those of client.
Two Examples to monitor the Effectiveness of pain:
a. The effectiveness of pain can be assessed by the pain scale.The scale 7 -10 represents the severity of pain and 0 represents no pain, and 4 - 6 represent moderate pain.
b. The pain can be assessed by the behavioral effects of the patients such as verbalization, vocal response, facial, body movements and social interaction. For Example, crying, Grunting, Clenched teeth, lip biting, restlessness and avoidance of conversation.
Two support strategies when dealing with life-threatening illness:
a. By understanding the disease and prognosis, assess the patient wishes in end-of-life care. Involve the family members in end-of decision-making.
b. Good interdisciplinary teamwork is essential to provide quality end-of-life care. Give preferences to client decisions in writing of care plans.
Two Common Responses to emotional impact in Life-threatening condition:
a. Make the patient environment calm and quiet and well supported him. Make the family members talk with the patient so that the patient will get hope.
b. Communicate with the patient and give religious and spiritual support to reduce the fear and anxiety of the patient.
Respect cultural beliefs of a person with life-threatening Condition:
The health care providers must understand the cultural norms of the patient and their families. Culturally competent care improves the life of the patient in the life-threatening situation. As patient has rights to decide on his treatment choices, the healthcare provider must give preferences to the cultural beliefs of the patient. For Example, allow the religious leader if the patient wishes to meet him.
Maintain Dignity of a Person aftercare:
The healthcare provider promotes dignity by respecting the client even after the death. Maintain privacy in doing death care. Provide sufficient time for the family to do the spiritual care. Support the family members and arrange for shifting of a dead client to the living family.
