Question
Two blocks are connected by a thin string as shown in this diagram. The pulley is massless and frictionless. The blocks are given an initial push, starting them out at 2.00 m/s. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the plane and block 1 is 0.240. Find the speed of block 2 after it falls a distance of 2.50 meters.
Two blocks are connected by a thin string as shown in this diagram. The pulley is massless and frictionless. The blocks are given an initial push, starting them out at 2.00 m/s. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the plane and block 1 is 0.240. Find the speed of block 2 after it falls a distance of 2.50 meters.Explanation / Answer
accelration = [3g - 1g*sin(theta)-mu*1g*cos(theta)]/(m1+m2)
==> a= (3*9.8-9.8*sin(56 degrees)-0.24*9.8*cos(56 degrees))/(3+1)
==> a = 4.99 m/s^2
so for the block 2
u= 2 m/s
s= 2.5 m
a= 4.99 m/s^2
==> v^2=u^2+2*a*s
==> v^2= 2^2 +2*4.99*2.5
==> v=sqrt(2^2+2*4.99*2.5)=5.38 m/s
