What would be 4 or 5 ways to structure your conversation of someone who is worried about their personal genetic question? How do you help answer the question if someone wants to be certain? What if a person has a low tolerance for certainty?
Explanation / Answer
The counsellor should first of all make the person sit comfortably and should make them understand about the genetic disorders. He should try to explain the person that memory loss is not at all a genetic disorder while lose of motor control may be.He should also try to explain that having fear is one most dangerous impact on amygdala, a part of brain which leads to stress ,pain, confusion and sometimes death. So the counselor should make them understand the concept of genetic disorders theoritically and also should explain about the diet to be followed so that they can avoid such situations in future.
If someone is more certain about their questions, the counselor should be precised and answer in such a way that he should set examples by just telling few examples of patients whom their offspring are not affected.Remember that confidentiality of patients is of utmost importance and cannot display any patient information .
