Question

A 0.145-kg baseball pitched horizontally at 31.8m/s strikes a bat and is popped straight up to a height of 57.6m .

Part A If the contact time is 1.70ms , calculate the magnitude of the average force on the ball during the contact.

Part B Calculate the direction of the average force on the ball during the contact.

I already have the answer to part A, and that is 3945.9 N, or just 3900N.

(Taking the square root of 2gh, I got 33.6m/s, which I plugged in to get the answer for part A and I am also supposed to use this for part B.)

I DO NOT understand how to get the direction of the average force for part B. I have to take tan-1( 33.6/31.8), correct? That gives me a decimal of 0.8 something, and I am not sure what to do with it?

Explanation / Answer

The mode of your calculator is radian. Change it to degree than you will get the answer 46.5
