Question
What does the spring scale read just before the mass touches the lower spring?
I got 55N.
The scale reads 17N when the lower spring has been compressed by 1.8cm . What is the value of the spring constant for the lower spring?
At what compression length will the scale read zero?
A 5.6kg mass hanging from a spring scale is slowly lowered onto a vertical spring, as shown in the figure. What does the spring scale read just before the mass touches the lower spring? I got 55N. The scale reads 17N when the lower spring has been compressed by 1.8cm . What is the value of the spring constant for the lower spring? At what compression length will the scale read zero?Explanation / Answer
part b:
Actual weight - Apparent Wt = Force applied
55- 17 = F
F = 38
so K = F/x
K = 38/0.018
K = 2111.11 N/m
----------------------------------------------
apply F = W = Kx
x = 55/2111.11
x = 2.6 cm , at this comporession , spring balance will have zero reading
