A researcher is conducting a research study in two high school health sciences classes-Class A and Class B. Each class is composed of 20 junior students. At the beginning of the study the researcher administers a questionnaire to each class about eating habits. The researcher then conducts a special class on healthy eating for Class A. Class B receives its usual instruction by the regular teacher. After the healthy eating class by the researcher, the researcher administers the questionnaire about eating habits to both classes again.

Explanation / Answer

The type of study was QUASI EXPERIMENT study. It is also known as Causal- comparative experimental research. It atempts to establish cause effect relationships between variables. These type of design are very similar to true experiements but with some key differences. Ina true experiement, participants are randomly assigned to either the treatment or control group, whereas they are not assigned randomly in quasi experiment study.

Quasi experiments are employed when the researcher is interested in independent variables that cannot be randomly assigned. Usually this happens when the independent variable in question is something that is an innate characteristic of participants involved. Here eating habits is innate characteristic and there is no randomization involved. So the present study was QUASI EXPERIMENT STUDY
