1) a tractor of mass1=2,000 kg is oulling a trailer of mass2=5,000 kg. the wheels of the trailer only are subject to friction with coefficient 0.2. if the trailer-tractor is accelerated at 2.0m/s2 then the force supplied by the tractor is?
2) a tractor of mass1=2,000 kg is pulling a trailer of mass2=5,000 kg. the wheels of the trailer only are subject to friction with coefficient 0.2. if the trailer-tractor is accelerated at 2.0m/s2 then the tension of the trailer hitch that connects the trailer to the tractor is?
3) An ant crawls in a straight line at a constant speed of 0.24m/s, beginning in the corner of a square classroom, for 3.0m. it then turns exactly 90 degrees to the right and proceeds an additional 4.0m with a constant speed of 0.44m/s, reaching the other corner of the same wall from which it began. What was the average speed for the full trip from corner to corner?
Explanation / Answer
1.F = mass* acceleration
F = force supplied by tractor(Fs) - friction force
friction force = friction cofficient*normal = 0.2*5000*9.8 = 9800 N ( mormal = m2*g)
Fs- 9800 = (2000+5000)*2
Fs = 23800 (B)
2. T - friction force = M2*a
T-9800 = 5000*2
T = 19800 N (B)
3. Average speed = total distance/total time = (3+4)(t1+t2)
t1 = 3/.24 t2 = 4/.44
Average speed = 0.32m/sec (C)
Average velocity = total displcement/time = 5/(t1+t2) = 0.23m/sec
