Question

Discussion Questions 1. Suppose that you created an android that was so advanced it could act independently in very complex situations. It made its own decisions and always did exactly what it wanted to do, in accordance with its programming. Would such an android be capable of free action? Why or why not? 2. According to hierarchical compatibilism, does Locke's trapped conversa tionalist act freely? Why or why not? 3. According to either traditional or hierarchical compatibilism, would there be any justification for punishing anybody? If so, what would the justification be? 4. What second-order desires do you have? Do you have any that you're not able to act on? Does that mean that you're not free? Why or why not? 5. If none of your choices were ever up to y ou i if you played no role in forming your character or becoming the kind of person you are-should you be held responsible for your actions? Why or why not?

Explanation / Answer

1)The android has programming tools which can be modeled and programmed according to the wish of the software manager. The program has options like android programming, with action media mounted, moved and deleted according to the content and script of the media. Basic programming languages are used for implementing particular programs through the use of this android tools. The software has a shell and a core. It analyzes the programs and its implications. The programming loops are fitted inside the software electronic gate channels for the appropriate analysis and the output of the work according to the parameters feeded in the systems.

2)Frankfurt has described the hierarchical compatilism. It recognizes the work of free will in doing certain actions. It consists of first order desire, will, second order desire, and second order volition. The first order desire is--desire to eat a potato, will to eat a potato, second order desire--it is a thinking and a desire for a particular purpose or a thing, second order volition--it is the desire to perform a will of doing it. Locke has described the power of will, desire and action for performing something. It includes the concept of powers and action to perform the work. The idea to will and thinking to perform the task. The concept of voluntary action includes the desire to think about a particular piece of work and take a decision regarding it.Liberty and kind of freedom--it includes the analysis and perception to perform tasks with decision regarding the implementing of the problems. Locke agrees the freedom of free wil does not last long ,and if pursued for a long time, it does not make sense and leads to a state of complete regression. The desire compels us again think about the problem, analyze it and finish it as soon as possible or terminate it, if it is not desirable in the long run.

3)In traditional or hierarchical compatibilism, the person who is deserving blame, punishment or reward, can be decided based on the self analysis of the person and the conditions prevalent for the happening of a particular event. The situation may be within reach or out of reach, the conditions and factors responsible for the occurence of the event needs to be understood. The justification can be done based on the analysis of the factors responsible for blaming, punishment or reward in the person depending upon the type of actions in a particular behavior.

4)Second order desires are based on frankfurt experiances which analyze the ability to recognize and perform in the situation with the vision to deny it in some instance and then follow on to accomplish it. It can be casual stance also of considered for a long time without analyzing the real circumstances and the situation in hand. It indicates teh free will of the person to declare freedom and live freely but for the sake of accomplishing the tasks later which are within reach and can be accomplished easily for example the tendency to eat with an initial desire to deny it and then agree to eat later on is an expression of the ability to fulfil some freedom and desire to accomplish some tasks and performance.

5)If none of our choices are met and one does not play any role in forming your character, the there is less chance of being blamed. The character decides the ability of a person to recognize potential, take decisions, interact in society, analyze and intercept the situation, and communicate in society. It depends upon the integrity of the person and his character in accomplishing those tasks according to the situation at hand. If a person has not burden of responsibilities then it becomes difficult to analyze the situation and recognize the potential of that person in society.
