PV Diagram Thermodynamics Question (check my work)?
First, I'd like to know if I did everything correctly? Second, my instructor said the "real" efficiency of this engine was ~25%, but I can't figure out how he got that answer. Any help would very appreciated! Thanks!
A hypothetical engine works on 1 mole of a monatomic gas. As diagrammed, this engine is working between two isothermal lines. Assume the process goes from point A to B to C, then returns to A. Fill out the table for one cycle of this engine and calculate the efficiency, both real and ideal. The volume at point A is 1.0 Times 10-3 [m3].Explanation / Answer
Efficiency=Work done/Heat supplied
Here, work done is sum of all the work done by the engine, ie Wnet=-7400 or 7400J
Heat suuplied is the heat given to the system. the heat given to the system is all the +ve values of Q [-ve values are the heat exhausted by the engine to cald sink]=16500+13600=30100
Efficiency=7400/30100=0.2459
or, 25%
