Question

1) The light bulb in the circuit shown below has a resistance of 43 and consumes 6.8 W of power as the 1.25 m long rod moves to the left with a constant speed of 3.1 m/s.

(a) Find the current that flows in the circuit when the rod moves left at 3.1 m/s.

I solved part and it was correct .39766A but the problem is with part b I don't know where I made the mistake :(

I keep getting 10.032m/s

(b) What speed must the rod have if the current in the circuit is to be 0.67 A?

2) A magnetic field increases from 0 to 0.13 T in 2.0 s. How many turns of wire are needed in a circular coil 12 cm in diameter to produce an induced emf of 5.7 V?

Explanation / Answer

Faraday's law of induction

emf = N ??/?t.

?B/?t = 0.13/2.0 = 0.065 T/s.
Area of coil: A = ?(d/2)
