I was reading an article about a tetronin(?) cream that can re establish collagen in the skin. How true is it that we are able to re establish collagen by applying topical skin care products? I know that the breakdown of collagen and elastin are two things that occur with age and cause wrinkles. I do not know what causes these two components to break down? I am sure it is a mix of factors that deal with signaling pathways and balancing of forces, but how can a topical cream stop all this? I do not believe them. So what it is these products are really doing? Are they simply modifying the outward structure of the skin which makes the wrinkles a little less visible? Tetronin contains a active ingresient tretinoin which is a natuarally occuring form of vitamin A. It speeds up the skin's metabolism which promote cellular turnover. It increases the production of elastin, collagen and hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural moisturizer in the skin. Increased production of collagen fills the wrinkles.
