Explanation / Answer

(a) energy of capacitor is given by E = 0.5*CV²

C= 3x10-6 F, V =6V

so , energy = 0.5 *3x10-6 F *6V

=5.4x10-5 J= 54 microjoule

2) charge on each plate initially is Q=CV = 3x10-6 * 6 = 18 x10-6 C

now when the plates are separated , the charge remain same,but capacitance decrease by half

since C = (epsilono*A)/d

so , new capacitanceC = 1.5 x10-6 F

now , energy stored in new capacitor will be 0.5 Q2/C

=0.5 * (18 x10-6 C)2 / (1.5 x10-6 F)

energy stored =1.08x10-4 J = 108 microjoule

c) Required Energy = 0.5*1.5 x10-6 F *6V² =2.7 x10-5 J = 27 microjoule
