Question
After a heavy snowfall, ski resorts use explosives to intentionally create a controlled avalanche. An explosive shell is fired with a speed of 800 m/s and hits the side of the mountain at a point that is 1600 m horizontally and 700 m above the launch position. Find the time the shell was in the air and the angle at which it was launched??
**Rules for solving problem correctly:
1. draw a picture
2. define x and y axes and label the origin.
3. label the coordinates of your initial and final points; use letters only, no numbers.
4. make a table of the information for x and y dimentsions.
5. Write the final position equation for each dimension
6. Count your equations and unknows.... then solve!
Explanation / Answer
By using phythogarus therom
Which is at a distance of
= sqrt(1600^2+700^2)
=1746.42m
And time is 1746.42/800
=2.18s
And angle teeta= tan^-1(700/1600)
=23.62°
