Explanation / Answer

Normal heamoglobin count for  Women = 4-5 million                                                      Men=     5-6 million Small   size   of RBCs   is   a   condition  known as microcytosis , results due to insufficient heamoglobin synthesis . Clinical term associated is MCV (Mean corpuscular volume ) .It  is the average   volume of  RBCs & reflects   the RBC size . The adult heamoglobin ( heamoglibin A) has two main chains   in formula as   22. Also there occurs Heamoglobin A2 with formula as 22. THALASSAEMIA    is a problem   of    under production of   normal globin proteins, due to   mutation  in   regulatory genes . - thalassaemia is due to mutation in HBB genes in chromosomes 11 ( autosomal recessive disorder) If only one allele is mutant , then  it leads to    - thalassaemia minor  a mild form of  microcytic anemia . The patient has increased HbA2 , &  decreased HbA . Therefore , your assumption is   true & your  patient is suffering from -thalassaemia minor.
