Question

A 2.00 kg block starts from rest at the top of a 30° incline and slides a distance of 2.20 m down the incline in 1.70 s.

(a) Find the magnitude of the acceleration of the block.
?? m/s2

(b) Find the coefficient of kinetic friction between block and plane.
???

(c) Find the friction force acting on the block.
Magnitude
?? N
Direction

4. up the incline

down the incline

normal to the incline

and upward normal to the incline and downward ???

(d) Find the speed of the block after it has slid 2.20 m.
??? m/s

Explanation / Answer

a) Using d = ut + at^2 /2

2.20 = 0 x1.70 + a x 1.70^2 /2

a = 1.52 m/s^2

b) along the incline Fnet = ma

mgsin30 - f = ma

f =2 (9.81sin30 - 1.52) = 6.77 N

and f = u N

N = mgcos30

6.77 = u x 2 x 9.81 x cos30

u = 0.40

c) friction force f = 6.77 N

direaction up the incline.

d) using v = u + at

v = 0 + (1.52 x 1.70)

v = 2.58 m/s
