Question

19. Two riders, A and B, of equal mass, rides two penny farthings also of equal mass. Rider A rides an original penny farthing (Figure 1) and Rider B rides a modified penny farthing (Figure 2). If Rider A attains an eastward velocity of v and Rider B attains an eastward velocity of 2v, which of the following is true?

A) The sum of Rider A’s momentum and Rider B’s momentum remains constant for the entire time.

B) Rider B achieves half the momentum of that of Rider A

C) Rider B achieves twice the momentum of that of Rider A

D) Rider A and Rider B achieve the same momentum

Explanation / Answer

I think you have not attached the figure.

momentum = mass * velocity

Since mass of both rider A and B are same, but velocity of rider B is double.

So momentum of rider B will be double of rider A

Answer: C) Rider B achieves twice the momentum of that of Rider A
