Question

Please help me, I am deeply confused in this class and trying so hard to understand. Please give detailed answers. I know some of these might be confusing but your help will really help me learn. The teacher requires very very detailed answers and he gives nearly no (and I mean literally nearly zero) partial credit so I'm dying here. Thank you sooooooo much, you have no idea.

Also, I am nearly leaglly blind and I am dyslexic so if you could please write clear it would help so much. I just want to learn like everyone else. SUPER SUPER THANK YOU

Explanation / Answer

4) a. Hexokinase is found in the cytoplasmic space

b. Hexokinase is a part of preparatory phase of glycolysis. Because it is involved within the first 5 steps of glycolysis in which energy is consumed to converts glucose into 3 carbon sugar phosphate.

c. No hexokinase is not the most important enzyme in regulation of rate of glycolysis. THe most important enzyme in this case is phosphofructokinase because it controls the conversion of fructose 6 phosphate to the fructose 1-6 bisphosphate by transferring one phosphate group from ATP to froctose 6 phosphate. This is the slowest reaction step in glycolysis so it is known as rate limiting step.

d. Glucose 6 phosphate is the physiological inhibitor of glycolysis. It lowers the rate of glycosis and conversion of glucose. It is allosterically inhibited by glucose 6 phosphate as it undergoes induced fit conformational change when it binds glucose which prevents hydrolysis of ATP.
