Question

Short question to check my work: When a beam of light (wavelength =590 nm), oringally traveling in air, enters water( refreaction inxex 1.33), its wavelength is .... reduced by a factor of 1.33 OR none of the given answers ( thats what i got it down to)

a) unaffected

b) increase by factor 1.33

c) red by factor of 1.33

d) none of given answers

And if you could check my work:

Concave mirror with radius of curvature of 40cm. The image has a magnification of +3.

- Whats the Focal Length? (f=r/2) so 40/2 =20 (but is this negative?)

- Is it real/virtual? Virtual

- Whats object distance ? (Do= m*f - f / m) = -26.7

-Image distance? (1/f = 1/di + 1/do)= 11.4

Explanation / Answer

the wavelength in water is,

L' = L/n = L /1.33

From the above result, it is clear that the wavelength is reduced by a factor of 1.33.
