Question
NEED HELP BY TONIGHT PLEASE!!!
Please help me, I am deeply confused in this class and trying so hard to understand. Please give detailed answers. I know some of these might be confusing but your help will really help me learn. The teacher requires very very detailed answers and he gives nearly no (and I mean literally nearly zero) partial credit so I'm dying here. Thank you sooooooo much, you have no idea.
Also, I am nearly leaglly blind and I am dyslexic so if you could please write clear it would help so much. I just want to learn like everyone else. SUPER SUPER THANK YOU
1. Glucose is an aldohexose. One can parse that term to understand that this refers toa sugar (-ose) containing six carbons (-hex-) and that the carbonyl found in this molecule's linear form is an aldehyde. Aldohexoses like glucose are usually found in a more stable pyranose form. [7 pts] Circle any of the following diagrams if it depicts glucose in a pyranose form [1.5 pt] a. OH CHO CH2OH HO ?? HO ?? ?? ? ?? ?? ?? CH OH 2 b. Of the 7 other aldohexoses, few are found as monosaccharides in nature. Why do you suspect that is true? Hint: Consider the relative stability of alpha and beta anomers of glucopyranose. [2 pt]Explanation / Answer
Ans:1.The term -ose is used to identify any compound sugar or non-sugar.0r Saccharides or non-saccharides. and no. of carbon atoms in a monosaccharide molecule can be the prefix of -ose. for exapmle if a monosacharides contains 5 carbon atoms then it can be called as pant(5 atoms) + ose(saccharides) = Pantose. The break down of Sucrose results Glucose(Aldohexose) & Ketohexose(Fructose).
Glucose is also called as Aldohexose because it contains an aldehyde group at one end which means 4 valancies of last carbon atom is being satisfied with Hydrogen and Carbon atom. which is the major characteristic of Aldehyde compounds. On the other hand Fructose contais a Ketone group which means all 4 valancies of carbon is being satisfied with Oxygen atom(2) as well as with alcohal group not from hydrogen atom unlike glucose.
(a) In the given three pictures, Third picture(left to right) is the structure of pyranose form of glucose.
because the major difference between glucose & its pyranose form is that pyranose has a carbon atom situated outside from the ring.as showing in picture. And pyranose form is more stable because pyranose is the alpha anomer of glucose and does not contain any double bond and it is scientificaly proven that single bonded compounds are more stable then double bonded compounds.
