(intromittent organ) is present in both vertebrates and nonvertebrates

It is the organ by which insemination occurs insexually receptive mates (females and hermaphrodites)

Intermittent organ in the different species are not necessarily homologous. For example, in mammal is at most analogous to the intermittent organ of a male insect  

In mammals e. g. Human the intermittent organ bears the distal part of the urethra, which discharges both urine during urination and semen during copulation

But in many species it has only single function of intromission
