Question
Two football players collided on the field, and both went flying backwards. Energy was transferred from each player to the other, sending them in the opposite direction from which they had been running.
Describe all the types of energy involved
Whether the total mechanical energy eas conserved or not
(if conserved- explain why/ if not conserved- explain where the energy went or came from, using the concept of work)
Make sure to clearly and carefully define what you consider to be the "system"
Describe the work done on the system, including sign and its source
Describe all forms of energy involved and how the energy was transferred between them, also non-mechanical forms of energy
Explanation / Answer
a)
when two football players collides on the field the total energy is conserved,
b)
here,by using law of conservation of energy the total enrgy of a system is always is constant before and after collision.
c)
system means ===> two football players
d)
workdone on the system is zero,
because, first players does the work on the second player and work done is +ve.
and this process is vice versa, hence change in energy of the system is zero,
e)
kinetic energy was transferred between the players
if the collision is inelastic, then system loses energy in the form of heat which is non-mechanical
