Question
I need help with b Thank you please show how it was done
Plaque builds up on the walls of an artery decreasing its diameter from 1.16 cm to 0.64 cm. If the flow speed is 12.5 cm/s before reaching the region of plaque buildup, determine the following.
(a) speed at which blood is traveling through the plaque-constricted region 41.06 cm/s (correct)
(b) pressure change within the plaque-constricted region. (Assume the density of blood is 1050 kg/m3. Be sure to include the appropriate sign with your answer.)
Explanation / Answer
from continuity equation
A1V1=A2V2
V2=A1/A2*V1=(1.16^2/0.64^2)*12.5
V2=41.06 cm/sec
b) from the bernoulies equation
pressure change=1/2*density*(v2^2-v1^2)
pressure change=1/2*1050*(0.4106^2-0.125^2)=80.325 Pa
